Description
This piece is inspired by organic skeletal structure. It is created via algorithmic and para-metrically generated processes expressed as three-dimensional forms.
General Workflow
For this piece, the 3D digital models were created using Rhinoceros 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) program and primarily via its visual programming aspect aka Grasshopper 3D. Grasshopper enables forms to be created from node-based expressions and the 3D design can be modified and updated via editing value inputs.
In the screenshot below, we can see the work-in-progress in Rhino and Grasshopper 3D. In a nutshell, the process started with associating several point objects on Rhino for creation of 2 initial curves inside Grasshopper. The curves were then divided and their end points were extracted. Specific points are then moved to new locations globally. Rows of arcs are then created from the points in a systematic and logical manner. Ruled surfaces were then build from the created arcs and curves. These surfaces were then given thickness via surface offsets and filling the edges with new surfaces.
Rendering and post processing were done using Keyshot (3D rendering program) and Serif Affinity Photo (photo editing program) respectively.
